Tofino Hummingbird Cottage is located in an exceptional part of the world. Tofino and its surrounding parks and beaches is widely known as one of the world’s most beautiful locales. Just steps from Tofino Hummingbird Cottage is beach access to the sandy, driftwood-strewn expanse of Chesterman Beach, named as one of Canada’s top 2 surfing beaches by Lonely Planet. There, you’ll encounter spectacular sunsets, big surf and the full healing power of the sea. Of course, Chesterman is just one of the region’s spectacular beaches. Iconic Long Beach is nearby, as is Cox Bay and McKenzie Beach.

Tofino rests in the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve, a precious and dramatically varied area 100km wide in which to view Mother Nature at her finest. Clayoquot Sound includes temperate coastal rainforest, lakes, alpine peaks, ocean and rocky coastal shores; habitats that provide a refuge and home for a vast array of species, many of which are endangered or rare. Nine of its forested valleys are still untouched by logging or industrial development.

Clayoquot’s marine environment incorporates mud flats, beaches, estuaries and the largest cover of eelgrass on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Near Tofino Hummingbird Cottage, you will find plentiful opportunities to experience the magic of Tofino. Don’t miss rainforest walks through Pacific Rim National Park, bike and beach outings (do stop at Wickaninnish Beach), a water-taxi or scenic flight to Hot Springs Cove, a stroll through Tofino Botanical Gardens or kayaking to Meares Island.

Embracing nature’s beauty boosts our cognitive abilities and moods, promotes healing, and reduces stress and negative feelings. It’s part of the hypothesis that suggests humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature.

Connecting with nature at Tofino Hummingbird Cottage is easy; Chesterman Beach offers spectacular storm watching, you have birds to enjoy from the deck or through the windows, and when walking on the beach, keep your eyes open for whales making their way down the coast – sightings are fairly frequent. For a more immersive experience, try a bird or whale watching tour (see links below).
